Pollen Allergy

Among seasonal allergies there is one irritating and painful allergy that many of us suffer from; the pollen allergy.
Pollen allergy happens in spring, when the winds carry the pollen of blooming flowers and plants to help them reproduce. You can’t control pollen allergy as pollen is inhaled with the air to enter your respiratory system, and some people may have all spring long.

The symptoms are a bit like cold, but in most cases are severe such that a person may not be able to read or sleep properly from tearing eyes and headache. The severe cases happen in open places, such as living near forests or countryside where there are trees and flowers, and the other cases are bearable to some extent.

Symptoms of pollen allergy:

pollen allergy
- Sore throat.

- Tearing eyes.

- Runny nose.

- Sneezing.

- Coughing.

- Itchy throat.

- Nasal congestion.

- Hoarseness.

How to keep pollen out of your home:

1- The firs thing you should bear in mind is that pollen is transferred with air entering your house and touching your clothes, body, and even pets. So, it is better to avoid things outside your home.

2- If you need ventilation, it is better to use air conditioner instead of the window, attic or ceiling fans.

3- Keep your windows closed at times of pollination, and also your car windows, keep them rolled up as the chance of exposure to pollen is high while driving due to the air entering with speeding.

4- Washing your clothes and letting them to dry outside, and also the bed sheets, is one big mistake that we don’t often recognize. Try to use the dryer, or hang the clothes to dry in empty room if you don’t have one. That way you will protect your eyes from direct contact with pollen.

5- If your cats tend to spend much time outside, it is better to keep them away from your bed and clothes as they can bring pollen in their fur. Also avoid direct contact with them, like cuddling and kissing.

If you need to go outside you should:

1- Never mow your loans and care of your garden at times of pollination. Let someone else do such jobs, and firmly close all windows during that process.

2- Avoid exercising outside in the morning as pollen is widespread at the time.

3- Wear sunglasses and use medical mask when you are going outside.

4- Avoid forests and green places, if you are planning for a vacation. Instead, spend it at the beach where there is not much pollen.

5- Change clothes and shower after coming home. Wash your hair as it collects much pollen when you go outside.
