Arabian Mau Cats

Arabian-mau-cats-healthianaThe Arabian Mau cat breed is defined as the original/natural cat breed that lived in gulf countries such as Arabian Peninsula, Dubai, United Arab of Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain. The breed is relative to the desert cats, but as we still can not say that the breed is endangered, we may indicate that finding a pure Arabian Mau is not very common.
The cat population in desert was affected by the continuous attempts to build new cities; thus, the cats were moving to live in cities and that, for sure, developed crossbreeding with other breeds.

As for the cat coat, the colors vary between three basic colors. But with crossbreeding, new color patterns appeared; such as pure white, black and white, striped brown tabby, and black and grey tabby. The two-pattern cats are usually spotted on the middle of their bodies, and striped on the thighs and legs. They sometimes appear like tigers or Bengal cats with their amazing coats.

The cat body structure appears more muscular and strong than other domestic cat breeds. The thighs are big, wide and the four legs are long with oval shaped paws.
That strong body structure is what characterizes the breed, mostly for the cat to hunt and bear the harsh desert circumstances. The cat tail is always black on the tip, and the black stripes are quite obvious on the end.
A variety of eye colors appear in this breed as they usually match with the coat, and the head is relatively round, separating the ears with a bit wider space. The cat’s face tends to be long, with a profile curve that shows the nose more prominent, unlike some breeds “like Persians”.

The Arabian Mau cat has a single layer coat, which is more firm than silky. It makes the cat suitable for living in hot climates and also doesn’t restrict its movement.
The cat character tends to be motivating and active. As desert hunters, they like to explore gardens, run and jump over trees to hunt birds and lay to relax on the grass. They are devoting and very forgiving for the punishment, and they never take offense from their owners. They interact with humans and other animals, including dogs, and they are perfectly social. They love kids and play with them in non-harmful way, and they show huge affection toward humans.

As for their health, the cats are naturally born strong, suffering no diseases and rarely experiencing them when grown up. The Arabian Mau cat is naturally very neat, clean and it takes a very good care of itself and its kittens. The females, however smaller than males, are always dominant and they care for their kittens for nearly 5 months.
